14th of February is celebrated as the Valentine's day every year in commemoration of St. Valentine. St. Valentine was a Roman priest who carried out clandestine weddings of people who were prohibited from getting married.

The history is interesting. Legend has it that the then king of Rome, Emperor Claudius II, thought that soldiers fought better when they had nothing else to concentrate on but the wars at hand. Hence, to expand the boundaries of his territory, he banned the soldiers from getting married. In spite of this, a priest of a local church, named Valentine, helped people get married for he believed in the miraculous powers of love. Of course, this offense was not tolerated by the Emperor and Valentine was jailed. It is also said that during this time, he healed the daughter of the jailer who had been blind for a while, and had also written a card expressing his emotions to her before he was executed. That is considered to be the first so-called Valentine card ever.

Question by David Allen: do you think she likes me?
im 18 and there is this girl i really like who i work with at my part time job and we get on really well, just seemed to click and we are good friends now. shes always quite flirty and gets kind of exited when she sees me and hinted a few times about getting her a card for valentines saying "ive no one for valentines you could get me a card" but i cant work out whether she is just generally a bit flirty and having a laugh or if she really likes me.

i think she knows i like her cos i hinted at it a few times and text her telling her i missed her when i hadnt seen her for a while. i would just go for it and get her a card only we work together and im friends with her brother so if im wrong she doesnt like me i cant avoid her and itll be slightly awkward at work and if she doesnt like me im happy to be just friends cos we get on well.

i was thinking of playing it safe and just texting her and saying happy valentines day rather than be my valentine so at least if she doesnt like me like that i can just laugh it off and say i was just being a nice friend cos she didnt have anyone.

a friend of mine was a bit more brave and just gave a girl a card(i know its a few days early but he couldnt wait) and it went kinda bad and thats put me off now, but im afraid that if i dont do anything then she'll think i dont like her at all aaahhh, any ideas?
